Aggela Chimona

Aggela Chimona’s work is a research in identity narratives. In her artworks, she attempts to re-document the past by seeking into the archives of memory, in an effort to acquire meaning of the present. She mainly works with video and sound, allowing her to process and edit her material reflecting the way the brain treats and process memories. Since memory is an unstable entity, were past and present mix with each other, the result is often a ‘collage’ of unclear storytelling of a reconstructed past. Spending a great amount of her childhood around grandparents and listening to their stories of the past, Chimona is mostly interested as to why each subject chooses to narrate and present himself/herself the way they do and not so much about the truthiness in them.

Aggela studied Fine art in UK and lives and works in Nicosia, Cyprus. She has co-founded nowwhat.com.cy along with Eleni Skoulia and Chrisanthy Christoforou.
